If you’re looking for the most nutritious and delicious anytime food for growing healthy kiddos, look no further...these Salmon Sardine Patties are LEGIT! And they’re one of my absolute favorites weeknight dinners for three reasons 1) did I mention they’re delicious?! Think sort of like a crab cake but with a salmon kick.  2) they take about 15-20 minutes to throw together.  Like SUPER duper simple with only 3 ingredients and so fast to throw together a time pinch.  3) They are full of so many nutritious things guys - loaded with Omega-3s, protein and lots of calcium and magnesium too.

Oh one more bonus - they’re very inexpensive! Made with canned fish, were talking like a $15 nutrient dense meal the whole family can enjoy.

I think sardines are one of the most nutrient dense foods for babies on this planet.  Their omega 3 fatty acid profile alone is so good for nourishing a growing brain.  And don’t worry, they taste delicious!!

You can make these yummy patties in bulk ahead of time and serve any time of the day, you can dip them, add them to salads, put them inside a bun, whatever you want to do!

I craved these when I was pregnant and I still crave them now that I’m breastfeeding and I feel that’s because of the body’s extra nutritional demands for healthy fats and calcium magnesium demands from breastfeeding.

I also like them because they’re a great nutrient dense starter food for babies and you can serve them at any age to kiddos.  They’re one of my kiddos favorite dinners I make.

Okay so here’s what you’ll need: 2 cans of wild salmon, 2 cans of wild sardines, 2 eggs and one large onion (and some spices too of course!)

You’re gonna smash all those ingredients together and form little patties with your hands and then fry them in a frying pan and viola! Dinner served!

I like to serve them with oven-baked broccoli because it’s super quick and they can bake while I’m frying the patties.

Serves: about 10 patties
Cook + Prep Time: 20 minutes

Here’s what you’ll need.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cans wild sardines (drained of its liquid) (this brand is my favorite)

  • 1 + 1/2 large onion, diced (about 1 cup + 1/4 cup)

  • 2 eggs (beaten)

  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard

  • Onion powder

  • Garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper

  • Coconut oil or avocado oil for frying

  • 1 lemon for serving

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. After straining all the liquid out of the canned fish, throw all the ingredients together in a bowl. Add the fish the onions, the eggs, and all the other good stuff too. Now mash and combine everything together with a fork.

  2. Then use your hands to form your patties, it really doesn’t matter how big or small they are, it’s up to you.  I typically make them about the size of my palm. First form a ball, then smash it flat.

  3. Add oil to a frying pan over medium heat.  Make sure the oil is nice and hot before you add the patties

  4. Fry them in batches about 3 at a time.  Fry them approximately 3-5 minutes each side (or until brown) and use your spatula to press them flat before flipping.  Try not to disturb them while they’re frying or they will break apart.

  5. Let them cool about 5 minutes before serving with a fresh slice of lemon and your favorite veggies!

Enjoy!
